Anyone playing with those drumsticks made by Aquarian about 10 years ago (don't know if they still make it)? The carbon-polymer-like sticks that leave a bit of black powder when played for hours (or days)?

Cause I love these drumsticks. The feeling is great, good ping, good 'resonance' through the stick, great 'rebound', and very hard to break! I still have a 10 year-old pair still in perfect playing condition.

Thanks for your thoughts about this.

I had a few pair of those about 10 years ago...they were called 'X' or something like that. They had red grips on 'em, right?

I hated them, personally...they flexed like a big doggie, and they had a thin-thin sound on cymbals.

Easton made a brief attempt at making sticks like those you were talking about: aluminum + plastic coating. Really bad stuff...

But I was talking about the graphite (that's the word I should have used first) sticks by Aquarian and the last pair I bought was like 6 or 7 years ago. Costly, long lasting like you said but they made different weights from light to pretty heavy. I never had any problems with halves separating except when the tip begins to wear out, after months of heavy use. And for my part they felt pretty much like hard wood

hehe not those!!! Those X had a kind of 'smarties'-like coating? Yuk!

I can't read the name of the model but I bought my last pair 6 or 7 years ago... I stopped playing for a while than came back to drumming last year. These sticks are made of graphite and are hollow but don't flex so easily... and I love them for cymbals. And they don't have those stupid plastic or rubber grip.

Well I'll do my homework and make a little research.

Thanks all

I had a pair of Aquarians, I think they were the white ones though so they were pobably nylon or the like. I liked them, they were very durable, but the tip came off on mine too. Remember those Aquarian ads with Roy Burns in Modern Drummer? God, they were all over the place. I also used to have an Aquarin cymbal spring too. Now, there's one piece of equipment I didn't get at all. Who the heck wants a cymbal bouncing around on a spring after you hit it? It's like those little baseball player dolls with the spring heads. Terrible. It's all Roy buns's fault, man. Scew you, Roy Burns! Heh.

yes, very bad. but not a 'brief attempt.' they're still around, and lots of drummers use them. they can be found at http://www.bigbangdist.com/.

Really? Well I guess we can't discuss tastes, but... I can't believe Easton is still making alum sticks with the white tips that always unscrew themselves, unless they improved a lot.

But if Aquarian is still making those great graphite sticks I'll go grab a few pairs.

YES! The second link is the one. The X-10 graphite sticks (without the red sleeve please!) are exactly what I've been using and still use now. Great sticks!

Thanks Soulbelly for pinchin' in!
