I'm confused about whether or not I should put a hole in my drumset base drum. If I should, how do I do it. I would really like someone emailing me about this. Thanks alot.

Most people do this, I assume that it lets the sound out, but I'm not sure about that. What I am sure about is how to do it. You buy a plastic ring, stick it on the head, then trace the inside diameter with an x-acto knife.

A hole placed in the bass drum head is there to lessen the ring of the drum and to deaden the sound a little. Also, it lets you place a pillow or blanket in the drum without taking off the head. Lastly, in a live application, it helps in the mic-ing of the drum.

It's really a matter of what sound you like. If you like a boomy sound, then no hole. You like a deader sound with a little more punch, cut the hole out. If you still like it even deader, place a pillow in the drum. As for the mic-ing of the drum, some sound guys prefer the hole so they can place the mic in the hole to get the best sound possible through the PA and
