Me again, I have one more question about methods of bass drum kicking (probably the wrong term), when you hit the bass drum should you let the beater it recoil back or should you hold the pedal down (and let the beater remain in contact with the head)?

In order to kick repeatedly, you'll have to let the beater come back...........

Learn both techniques. Two different sounds.

Depends on what kind of sound you want. I play both ways depending on what kind of sound I want. If I want a big punch and little tone, I will push the beater into the head. If I want a more open tone and some resonance, I'll hit the head and let the beater come back. I also do that when playing double bass (pedal) because it allows me to play much faster. You can play faster if you do that with a single pedal also.

I think if you are a beginner it will be easier to hold the pedal to the bass drum head after you kick on your pedal. Also pay attention that you hold your heel up when you play, as it will allow you in the future to play faster.

Heel up, heel down, bounce the beater, bury the beater. These are all valid bass drum techniques and should be learned and utilized. Don't ever settle for 'easier'.

I strongly disagree with this statement. It is ludicrous to tell someone to only bury the beater because it's easier. If burying it was the answer, why then is this method not teached with the hands/sticks as well? IMO, one doesn't bury the stick into the head so why do that with the beater, unless a different sound is desired?
