Modern drummer has a really tough question for its readers - what is the best drum solo ever?

They are even asking readers to submit their thoughts and opinions on the subject to

billm [at] moderndrummer.com.

So if you think you have a theory - go ahead and send it to them.

I for one would never be so bold.

How is it possible to even consider choosing one drum solo as the best of the best…

In music and art there are no absolutes - and The Best is an absolute.

However, Karma Drums did post two great lists of Drum solos - so whether you believe or not in the existence of  the absolute in art These long lists would make contemplating this question a good way to pass the day.

1. Drum solo page on Drummerworld
2. Drum solo page on Drum Bum

I found a great video at Grow a Brain, which is always a good place to go to find anything that is out ouf the usual.(scroll down all the way - the video I am speaking about is the last one on this post).

Once you watch this video, I’m sure you will agree with me that amazing just doesn’t cut it.

The drummers name is Tim Jackson. I was impressed enough to go and look for more videos of his drumming and this is part of what I found. enjoy!

Nico The Beast released his new album Feed The Beast last month and much has been written about it all over the web.

The best interviews however, are the ones with a different approach, that bring you things the standard interviews don’t and let you peek in at the less well rehearsed inner workings of the artist’s mind.

One such interview with Nico the Beast was conducted on FloodWatch Just to wet your appitite here is my favorite Q&A from the interview:

FWM: If you could gain a superpower (strength, invisibility, etc), which one would it be and how would you use it?

NB: Any power? Man, I’m gonna get in trouble for this one, but fuck it - any man who says they don’t want X-ray vision is a goddamn liar [laughs]. I can be politically correct and say Spidey senses or some shit and that I would save the world. But let’s be realistic, it would take a lot more than one man with superhuman power to save this planet, feel me?

Its worth the click to go over and check it out.

While you are there, Flood watch has done a comprehensive month long saga write up on Rush so if you are Rush fans, or are interested in a different perspective - this is a good place to go!

I thought this was pretty unusual - using live drums for rap and r&b. I think its great - is also interesting to see the whole recording prossess involved.
