I haven't had my set (yamaha stage custom/zildjian cym.) for long, but I know the first thing I want to upgrade is the kick pedal. I figure I'll worry about improving the sound after improving how it feels.

The thing is, there are a ton of options for pedals, so I thought I'd ask for some advice (pointers to info elsewhere would also be welcome)

Anyway, I was looking at DW5000 double pedals...Anyone know what the difference is between the different drives ('accelerator', 'turbo', 'nylon strap' or the different models ('delta II', 'delta', 'delta s'.

Or pearl...They look pretty cool because they come with 4 different cams...again, tho does anyone know the difference between the drive options (chain, belt, double chain).

Any other brands I should be looking at?

Thanks!

Used to have the DW, couldn't do a thing with it. Tried the Tama years later, it was ike night and day.

I have used Ludwig Speed King, DW5000 and Tama Iron Cobra. The Cobra is my first choice.

As far as accelerator, etc. it has to do with the cam which control the movement of the beater to the drum head. I use a turbo which is a standard arc, the accelerator will move the pedal more quickly to the head. Nylon is a nylon strap rather than the more common chain. The Delta and Delta II have to do with (among other things) the bearings in the hinge to the heel plate. If you go with DW I suggest you try them out to feel the difference. Good luck.

You know, I've been following this thread with some interest, that being my possible intention of getting a double kick. My question is: Obviously there is some music where a double kick or bass is absolute neccessity; but in other cases, a double kick simply makes it easier to nail an otherwise difficult piece originally designed for one foot. Does a double-kick erode overall skill with the right (or left) foot? I've never played one. If Bonham, Bruford, Collins, et al did it without, why not strive to do the same? Interested in the group's opinions on this.

Single footer here. I go for the independence aspect.

IMO a double kick will only erode skill if you let it.If you can nail the difficult stuff with one, think how you can push your boundaries with the second kick.

As you say, sometimes a double kick is needed, but unless you are playing Death Metal or something similar, its not. However, if you have been playing a while with a single pedal, you will find the double pedal frustrating at first, so prepare to perform some rudiements with your feet.....

I've only recetly begun using the double pedal. I find it fits in a few places where I would not be able to get that same sound with only one bass. I use it very little when playing. I've found it kinda fun for practice
