Does anyone have any tripped out sounds they can make from their drum kit? I know about drum harmonics, where you push your finger across the skin and get that sort of groaning sound. And that thing where you hit the cymbal while choking it by your palm resting on top of the cymbal in the centre and then rock it around quickly to get a wierd sort of tripped out effect. What experimental sounds have you all got?

Not a whole lot more than that unless you are recording and you can use flangers, delays, etc.. Try playing with your hands, that is fun. Also, hit a tom while one stick is already on the head and immediately apply pressure with that stick to make the pitch raise. That sounds cool too but it will detune your drums if you do it to much.

I saw Dave Weckl using this technique! It's really great in a drum solo

hitting the rims sopunds pretty cool - they are quiet - but each rim has a different tuning according to the drum. You can get some pretty cool sounds out of them as well

If you take the top cymbal of your Hi-Hat and lay it on top of your snare with the snares on it sounds really cool.
