Hi everyone, Ok I have a question regarding the heads on my drums. I have Remo CS black dots for the batter heads on my toms which I've had on them for about a year or more. I'm not in a band right now and I don't play the drums that often, so the heads are still in fairly good condition. They're not really that marked up and I just tuned them again today and they had a good ring to them. My question is, should I replace them anyway even though they still seem to make a good sound and they're not chewed up? Or should I leave them on?

My drum teacher had the most beautiful sounding 15 year old heads.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

In fact brand new heads can be a pain when recording...

Like you say if they still ring chances are there is nothing wrong with them especially if you are just using them for practice

Not only that, it's a pain in the ass removing heads, putting new ones on, and tuning them for the first time.

Who said drumming was easy? Most full time recording drummers have their drumheads changed and retuned often, some daily. I'll usually go two or three sessions (10 songs?). The high end gets knocked out of a head very quickly by a hard hitting session drummer and engineers usually want all the brightness they can get from a drum.

Yes that's true. Although, depending on how hard you plan, what your purposes are, and how often you play, that determines how often you need to replace the

You said it's a pian to remove all of them .Not really .Just take's a little time to gett it all done at once..

Big pain is to tune both side's of the drum .

You don't have to tighten that head so tight .If you wine up doing that ..You can damage the heads .InFact , YOu can streght them so far .They will just come to pices. Metal rim will come right off the head .

Hey Man,

Believe me I know I've been there myself. The reason I'm being carefull about joining any drum club again or what have you is because of snobs mainly. Can't deal with them and don't have to! I have quit several drum clubs on count of them! Will not go through that again!
