I would like to get some ideas on head selection for a Pearl Rhythm Traveller. The toms on this kit were made compact for portability. The sizes are 10, 12, and 14 inches, they are all 5 inches deep and have no resonator heads. Drums would be tuned for rock and blues.

I would suggest a two ply head like a pinstripe or Emperor that emphasize the lows since you don't have much mass in the shell to resonate at low frequencies.

Hey Adam!
I think the Rhythm Traveler is great! I use it every week for my wedding gigs. The sound is great for what I do. I installed some internal mics and they sound (almost) as good as my Pearl Masters Kit. Almost. Sort-of.
The heads I use are Evans Hydrolics.(Sp?) The 10' isn;t al that great, but I don;t use a 5 piece anyway. I also tried Evans G1s and they sounded pretty good as well. I did put a Evans 20' EQ4 on the kick side, and it works.
That's my idea -

I went with pinstripes on the toms, a powerstroke 3 on the kick drum and I left the snare with the coated ambassador. It sounds good. I got a very helpfull e-mail from a guy at pearl drums. He gave me a couple of suggestions. One was to leave the factory heads on, and put some e-rings, rem-O's or zer-o-rings on the toms, and get a couple of remo muffl's for the kick drum (one on each head). The second suggestion was what I have now. I'm really curious to see how the rings would sound and maybe someday I will try them out. Does anyone use any of this stuff?
