my snare drum that is. I am the proud owner of a gourgeous new starclassic performer kit and am tormented by my snares responding to the beats of my toms and base drum. despite all my attempts to adjust the heads, top and bottom, as well as the strainer tension i cant make it stop. any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I read along time ago about loosening the four lugs* adjacent to the two snare 'gate' openings. Not something I would do with a concert snare drum, but this might help.

This is normal, when playing live it's not noticable.

Controversial comment:

You'll find even when playing the Roland V-Drums (obviously with no actual snares) the snares buzz. They have included this 'feature' into the normal kits of the V-Drums to simulate the usual characteristics of an acoustic kit.

So to conclude, let's celebrate the snare buzz - of course when recording radical steps can be taken to eliminate the snares doing their thang. But when live it all adds to the ambience of the event (unless they really are rattling to every bass players pluck!).

Ahaha, too true. But they obviously felt it necessary to include this characteristic - so it is a valid 'effect'!

make sure the snare doesn't touch the toms or kick drum. might sound daft, but I've seen it happen. You could try getting a TAMA air ride stand for the snare... and if there's still a problem, try tuning the toms to a different pitch to figure out which frequency is making the snare rattle... is it really noticeable anyway?
