I have a full set of Paiste Signature Series cymbals. I just recently cleaned them with Brasso, a cleaner for brass and silver items. That was the only cleaner I had readily available, and used it - not knowing that it would leave a heavy residue on it. I tried cleaning it off with some warm water, but to no avail. It took off the dirt, fingerprints, and other grit on the cymbals, but it really took out the bright-shine of the cymbal, leaving quite a dull finish. I cleaned all but one cymbal, and the uncleaned cymbal actually looks brigher and better (despite the prints and dirt). My question is, would buying Paiste's (or another brand's) cymbal cleaner give me back the shine I had once before? Or possible give me the same results?

Thanks - Dark Ninja

Try posting this question in news: rec.music.makers.percussion with 'ATTN: Mike Carter' in the subject. He is a Paiste rep and will know the answer.

I just read somewhere to not use brasso on cymbals as cymbals are made of <bronze>??? not brass it will leave a very heavy residue.

I also have a vague memory of cleaning some balinese< also made of bronze?> instruments <acutally an expensive gamelan orchestra with its own humidity controlled room> in college with brasso and every one was really happy oooh so shiny but then a couple weeks later it turned out to be a bad idea. I am not totally sure on this story though maybe it was a good idea.

Anyhow the gist of the story was I think they will survive the brasso residue but not attempts to remove it.
