Hi all,

I'm looking for a good MD player/recorder that i can use to record live music - myself practicing drums and keyboard, band practice, concerts, instrument clinics, etc. Does anyone have any recommendations or any suggestions of what to look for? This is the first time i've really looked at any MD players or whatever, and don't really know much about them, or about what the current level of 'standard' technology is.

More specifically, as i'm going to be asking someone to get one for me, what are the key things i should make sure the MD recorder has when selecting one? Input/output ports, shock protection, long play, various recording functions, editing features, or whatever that comes with them? For example, can i record straight from a PA desk mixer to an MD? And if i can, is there any specifics which the MD recorder should have, or can most MD's do this?

I've heard that Sony MD's aren't all that great compared to other brands like Sharp, both price wise and performance wise. Any truth to this? Any pros or cons brand wise? I mean, are there any brands which have 'better' or the 'best' MD recorders/players?

Let me know the essentials (and the non-so essentials, which are nice to have anyways ) which would be specific to using an MD to record live music.

Any mic recommendations/things to look for? I would need something which can withstand high volumes. Any favorite mics which are known to be good for recording live music with?

Thanks!
