It is actually a 14x5.5, but they call it 14x7 because of the wood hoops. There is great photo of it at the raffle web site. I'll get the URL from MIKE. It is a Signia that they call Special Edition. It has gold plated hardware etc. There is a photo of it in the Interstate catalogue also.

This is a great sounding drum and I love how it looks (although I have the clear finished version). The biggest rap against using this drum as the everyday work horse is that it detunes QUICKLY. There have been others on the group who have recounted similar experiences as mine, but the thing sounds sweet! Just have a tuning key at the ready whenever you play it.

I cannot say with certainty what contributes to nor causes the detuning. If you play rim shots, Beware!

What I know is that the lugs tend to loosen in odd places. Lug de-tunage at 5 and 7 o'clock might be considered normal for the rim shot player, but every 3 tunes....?

I play with ear protection so the de-tunage I incur through the course of a practice session is not always audibly discernible to be. However, after 15-20

minutes sometimes I notice a lug is noticeably looser than the others. I cannot tell this by sound, but rather by feel.

Anyhow, your mileage may vary but what I know is that I own about a dozen snares and this is the only one which behaves in this manner with my style of playing. Additionally, I have two kits and both of which are Premier and no other drums in the kit detune in this same manner.

This is a dumb question, but how does detuning happen? I understand if the lugs loosen they would cause detuning and you can use lug locks, but what else would cause detuning in this snare?

my stupid guess: since the hoop is wood, it's softer than metal... this means the characteristics of the hoop can be changed with force... also, the hoop is in multiple pieces, rather than the 1 piece a metal hoop is. the vibrations/rimshots/whatever can cause the claws to shift slightly and the hoop/drumhead relationship to change.

a very sick and incoherent colin.
