Over and over I severley dent my tom's over and over, does anyone know a good way to prevent this, or why it happens (so that I may try and prevent it) I use tough heads and don't beat the crap out of them, but they always dent, help

This is due to the angle your stick tip strikes the head. Tilt your toms so they're flatter.

Zero, Rick has one good suggestion, but it is also possible that you are 'stiff-arming' your drums, that is, you are keeping your fingers and wrists in a locked position instead of letting the sticks bounce away from the head when they hit. This is a tendency with drummers who don't work through their rudiments and learn to relax and with drummers who feel that they need to personally overpower the rest of the band instead of letting the sound reinforcement folks do their job. If this is not the case with your playing, please accept my apology for explaining the obvious. Best of luck, Ian
