Hey guys, I'm new to this group so if you wouldnt mind, how about answering a few questions for a newbie? Cool... I used to play drums in college, a few years ago, and its never left me. I'm dying to play again but you just cant play in an apartment. I'm planning on buying a house soon, so any advice on soundproofing? How about a good kit to start off with? I'm a lefty by the way. Who makes the qaulity stuff these days? Whats the general concensus on electric drums? Should I look into them or am I wasting my time? Thanks for any advice, I appreciate it! Robert Clarke

If you can find a used electronic set, they make great practice pads. As far as using them in a band, there are a few things to consider. The plus side is; you have range of volume and variety of sound. In your apartment, you can hook up your headphones and not bother the neighbors. On stage, you have to look at what type of music you play. Blues or Rock may not be the best venue for an electronic set. Dance or Techno, on the other hand, works. The purists tend to frown on electronics. But if that doesn't bother you, then nevermind! I just bought a set of electronic triggers for my accoustic set. I'll see how that works out.

Hope this helps a little.

Hey, check out my band!! www.riversick.com

I have an electronic kit that I find very versatile however I do not play with a band so do not have to deal with the logistics of that scenario. My wife can be in the next room and can still watch tv without being bothered. My neighbors NEVER complain (I do live in house).

I would like to have a spare acousitc drum kit for the odd gig but when it comes to my home recording nothing beats the electronic kit. Two cables and I am in business for recording directly onto my computer as opposed to stringing a million microphones.
