i am trying to get some ideas for different ways to get really slammin' drum sounds. here is what i have been doing'

i mic the kick with a d112 up close, and a 414 far away. i mic top snare and bottonm snare. usually i put the kick(outside) and snare(top) through some sort of tube pre-amp. mic toms with 58's stereo over heads....maybe neumans 184's through tube pre... carefuly placed room mic.

any imput on a different approach? maybe more room mics?? someone please help me.

Sounds like a pretty good setup to me, just remember, the bottom snare mic should be polarity reversed. You can end up with a really thin snare sound if you don't. 58's are good for toms, try 57's too, though, or be brave and use good condensers EVERYWHERE on the set!
