Hi, I think I need to replace the heads that came on my son's cheapo snare, they are unknown origin and both bottom and top are clear. I am unhappy with the sound of the snare as it seems to loud and tinny to me as well as the sound ringing maybe a little too long. The heads are tight and have been tuned again and again with no results, I think that a new set of proper heads might buy us some decent sound out of this drum and am looking for suggestions as to what type and brand to get. Also, the dampener inside has broken and I was wondering where I might get a new one, please reply.

What works for me is the remo coated emperor x
for the batter head which is a 2 ply head {10mm per ply} 20mm thick with a black dot at the bottom of the head and the remo emperor reso snare head for reso which is also a little thicker than the ambassador and dimplomat snare heads. This will give you alot less ring but with a big full sound. Hope this helps!
