Can anybody give me advise on what they use to compose drum tabs on the computer with? I have seen some brilliant files in Acrobat .pdf format and feel that 'notepad' tabs just don't quite cut it as they are difficult to read when sitting at the drum kit.

Thank you in advance,

just get a blank piece of paper and draw it in. i use the two line system, top line is hands, bottom line is feet. right above the line, left below the line. for toms, draw a hollow circle and write in the number of the tom. for cymbals make a hollow box and use a letter for the cymbal if you need to. most people however are using the five line system. that works fine for a piano or a guitar or a row of tuned concert toms, but its pretty goofy for a regular drumset. when they put each individual tom or cymbal on a different line, it gets to be pretty funky to read complex parts. both systems obviously have their advantages and disadvantages, i find the two line system to be more practical and easier to read personally (and if an idea pops into my head, it takes a lot less time to draw a two live staff than it does a five line staff!).
