muting/muffling. makes the tom have less ring after it's hit. same effect as stuffing a pillow in the kick drum. if u need more info, some informative drum web sites will have all u need to know on this topic.

I agree. You can get any sound you want out of a drum with some patience.

Patience yes, however some folks like the sound of a deadened drum with little or no overtone. Its personal choice, the great aesthetic equalizer.

you really can't tune any drum to the sound you want, you can force a 14x5.5 to sound like a 13x6.5 it's not going to work. to my prospective drums have their naturl beauty to them and each cound is different and depending on the drum depends on the projection you get from them.

Yall know ..YOu never ever put tape on a drum head ?? Never {why} :: You can't tune and the sound that you try to get out of them !!

It want never match up with the sound that you try to get ..I have done it in the early 70s ..It just don't sound good or feel right ..

Just get the DeadRinger's cut-out's ..Do it Right"

The bottom line is that you do not muffle drums except for the bass drum and maybe, just maybe the snare. I don't know of any pro's that muffle their drums. Most pro's will tell you to go for all the ring you can get! It's all in what type heads you use and how you tune them. I'm 55yrs. of age and have been playing drums professionly for 43yrs. and as I have said before this is not my first rodeo and will not be my last!!!!!!

Thanks,

Tim
