Does anyone have any tips for how to make a drum kit sound more rocky. I don't know if you understand what I mean but any ideas would be appreciated.

Try playing your rock beats with a 'sloshy' or slightly open/half-open hi hat. really emphasize or accent the kick drum and the snare back beat (experiment with rimshots): in other words play them loud. Play like you're not going to disturb anyone, and you wouldn't care if you did! kick and snare should balance each other in volume. Keep the beat real steady, with minimal fills if you that's a problem. Don't over-muffle your drums, especially the kick. Some would say don't muffle at all. When you hear them out front, mixed with the band, all of the snare/toms ringing (which is very subjective), etc. usually translates as 'tone' or fullness. I prefer a snare that is tuned fairly high, also. It 'cuts' more easily. Listen to the beginning of 'Rock 'n Roll' by Led Zeppilin, or anything else by them.

Is any of that new or different information?

When you tune:

Get the heads 'finger tight'. Then EVENLY tighten all the lugs until the head will sound, but not flap.

Low drums rock.

The kit's not mine, it's a friends who hasn't got enough room at his place. I know very little about types of drums.But...

Think it's a reno kit with snare, bass, floor tom, two normal toms and another two higher toms. with a Paiste 20' power ride and two paiste crash symbols. The high hat is a 14' meteor turbo

Any help or do you need more info?
