I need to buy some mics for my toms. 2 toms and a floor tom. What kind should I get. Mainly looking for ones that clip on my rim but it doesn't mater that much. Don't want to spend much money like 150 for all 3 of them. Any ideas? Are the audio technica ones good? any other all in one packs good? thanks a lot -Slick Nick

yes, a pre peack is what I'm mainly loking at. I want mics espically made for toms, but I don't need to spend a lot on them. I'm puting most of my money in to a shure SM57 for my snare and an AKG D-112 Bass mic. I just need something on my toms to pic up sound. Can anyone suggest a pre pack to use for this? -Slick Nick

haha, Great to hear about that D-122. Cause my bass drum is a cardboard box! hehe, I actually have a pearl all maple shell set that sounds GREAT on a stage. But only ok in recordings (never used a real bass mic though, hoping this does the trick) Thanks a lot. Oh one mroe thing. Do you know of a good place to get 2 condensor mics for overhead use? I'm going to need the to be on 6 cymbals 3 on the left side (crash, splash and hi-hat) and 3 on the right (china crash and ride) shoud 2 be fine., should I mic the hi-hat and ride on their own? thanks again -Slick Nick

musician's friend.

get a stereo pair for like 99 to 150 each for a cheap brand...look for marshall, or rode. there are a couple different brands...if you get the catalog take a look in it...you only need ONE to get the job done, but two will give you a nice spread....

i've got the audio-technica kitpak; 2 kick/tom and 2 snare/tom mics. i can't get enough of them. recording sound is great, and i plan to start with live stuff with them. overheads are fun too.
