This is due to the angle your stick tip strikes the head. Tilt your toms so they're flatter.

here's a suggestion what i have done with my toms is just cut a couple of rings out of some old skins to fit snug in the hoop. It cuts out heaps of ringing anf gives a really fat sound.

I suppose a sound insulation to the room would be most efficient but you can also put a pillow in the bass drum and put plastic o-rings on the toms and snare drum.

Ya the system makes a real improvement, especially to bass drum mounted toms. The drums sound deeper and more expensive. A drum shop fitted my mounts, so can't help you with fitting.
