I've been in the market for a small drum set (for basement practice purposes) and have had the opportunity to look at quite a few sets. Buying used is probably the best avenue of course, but what about all these no-name drum sets out there with names like Peace, CB percussion, Percussion Plus, TKO, etc. Are these drums any good? Some of the unknown brands I've seen seem to be comparable to Pearl's low line Forum set although some of them seem a lot worse (especially with those cymbals they include). If anyone had any help or opinions that would be great.

i think the best value in the low-end drums today is the pacific E series. some of the features that it has are pretty nice, and i'll bet it would sound even better with a set of remo (or any other pro quality head for that matter) drumheads. i've seen them sold for about 350-400 dollars, and i've seen the forums selling for about 400-500 dollars. And the pacifics sound better in my opinion, anyway.

I'd avoid them like the plague. If you want a low-cost kit, don't go lower than a Pearl Forum or Tama Swingstar. -strat81
