My 10 year old would like drums for Christmas... I know nothing about them...... I have been considering the Yamaha DTExpress set.... I was thinking electronic for the simple reason that she could play when ever she wanted without bringing down the house. I have three other kids so whatever I get will get plenty of use.......any suggestions or links to other info would be greatly appreciated...

Am I alone in believing that there is a 'touch' that is learned on an acoustic kit that is VERY different on an electronic kit. Maybe some of the top of the line 'E' kits have good 'feel'(I have played a few V- Drums that were nice but not affordable for me). Once you learn the 'e' way can you adjust to the acoustic kit?

Electronic drums could also be very beneficial in the learning process. I've read numerous interviews with Terry Bozzio noting how 'unforgiving' pads are and how it forced him to tighten/loosen his technique where it needed it the worst. Of course, you should strongly consider having a snare and some real cymbals around for 'natural feel' experience and brush-work as well... You just can't get the same nuances and subtleties with electronics, unless you're one of those mad scientist drummers that hooks your kit up to a laptop, god love 'em...
